Marriage

Having a Wedding at Sacred Heart Parish

The sacrament of Holy Matrimony is a sacred rite and joyful occasion.  Couples who are seeking to be married at Sacred Heart Church are encouraged to contact the office.

Any couple is welcome to be married at Sacred Heart Church, however at least one member must be Roman Catholic.  Silvana Martínez serves as the Wedding Coordinator at Sacred Heart church. She will be able to advise you, answer any questions, or give directions on your behalf.  Silvana may be contacted by calling (804) 781-4525 or by emailing [email protected]. Please leave a message with your name and your phone number if she is unable to answer the phone.

Please set a precise date for your marriage/reception plans only after a confirmed date is made on the parish calendar.  We will make an effort to honor requested dates. Typically, weddings are held at 11:30 am and 1:30pm on Saturdays.

Marriage preparation involves meeting with the celebrant who will preside over the wedding and the required marriage formation program.  The marriage preparation program is offered in Spanish at Sacred Heart church several times a year. The Richmond Diocese also offers a marriage preparation program in English called Unveiled.  Interested individuals may register for the Unveiled program through the Diocesan website https://www.cdrcmfl.org/marriage-preparation/.  Couples are encouraged to complete the marriage formation program six months prior to their wedding.

Required documents

Both bride and groom need to provide copies of baptismal certificates dated within six (6) months of booking the wedding.  Please note: We do not accept original baptismal certificates or copies of originals. Roman Catholics may obtain baptismal certificates from the church where they were baptized.  Those baptized in another Christian tradition should obtain their certificate/letter showing complete baptism information.

Both members of the couple will be asked to have two people (preferably their parents or other relatives) to fill out a form (Affidavit of Free Status).  This form states, to the best of their knowledge, there is no reason why you cannot be married.
