Arriving in Richmond in 2008, we immediately began a search for a parish where we would feel welcome. Someone told us of a small parish in south Richmond called Sacred Heart… staffed by Jesuits. Since I had an older brother who was a Jesuit and who had passed away in 2006, we decided to visit the parish for Mass one Saturday. We were warmly welcomed by Fr. Harry Hock…and when he found out I was Fr. Dag’s brother, he brought me over to meet Fr. Shay… The rest is history.
From that point on, we were hooked. Mary Ellen has become very involved in the ESL ministry at the Sacred Heart Center drawing on her years as a teacher and as a Principal. I have been drawn into working with the Parish finances as a former development officer…helping both the Parish and the Center.
We love it here and have never regretted our choice to join Sacred Heart with such a wonderful mix of people who have become friends…not to mention the wonderful Jesuits (and their spirituality) whom we have come to cherish.
